About Us
Lisa Mastro, President of MastroMedia, holds a degree in marine biology from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth and is a graduate of the Advertising Arts College in San Diego. She's always been intrigued by the interplay between art and science; she became a marine biologist primarily to learn about the underwater creatures she was photographing. Her love of photography led her finally into the field of graphic design and multimedia, where her photographer's eye for elegance in symmetry and form continues to influence her work.
Jim Mastro also holds a degree in biology, from San Diego State University, and a Master's degree in English from the University of New Hampshire. Though he worked as a marine biologist for many years, he nurtured a passion for photography and writing. His photographs and written work continue to be published widely, and his scientific training and organizational ability have contributed to his skill as a technical writer and editor. If there is a theme that underlies his every endeavor, it is communication. From training marine mammals to taking photographs to writing and editing highly technical documents, his goal has always been to convey information clearly, concisely, and unambiguously. He prides himself on his ability to translate legalese and thick, academic prose into easily understandable English.
Lisa and Jim met in Antarctica, where both worked as scientists and managers for many years, and where both were able to hone their respective skills in communication, photography, and design.
